Junkyard King (2022)

Thousands years into the future, humans have gone extinct while animals have continued to evolve. In this future, a group of ragtag kids and their mysterious leader, known as The King (Anairis QuiƱones), live in a sacred home they call The Junkyard. The kids are sheltered from the harsh outside world, with only The King’s bedtime stories to help them understand what lies beyond The Junkyard’s gates. The King’s second-in-commands, the fiery Bingo (Alicyn Packard) and the reserved Gosha (Azat Sayadi), train to one day take the throne. The two clash frequently, but their shared curiosity about the outside world forces them to work together to discover their own destiny.

What plays on TV after dark? Saturated colors and X-ray imagery swirl and bounce through wide eyed and frantic characters in a play of animation techniques, video overlays and stylized trippy imagery. An original experimental animation created by Spencer Nicklaus, utilizing both stop motion and digital techniques to create mesmerizing sequences.
